Meet Mark

Dear Neighbor,

I am a lifelong Becker resident and for the past 30 years I have worked as a teacher, administrator, coach and counselor in the Becker school system. I am running to be your Mayor because of the need for increased transparency in our local government, as well as my ability to provide fiscally responsible leadership.

I have been married to my wife, Kelly, for 30 years and together we raised two daughters: Kaitlin and Kiara.  Last year, we also became grandparents and let me tell you, there is nothing better!

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English Education from SCSU and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Mary's University.  In addition, I completed my 6th Year Certificate in School Administration and my School Counseling Licensure program at SCSU.  

Over the years, I have been an active volunteer in the community and am passionate about giving back to the Becker community because it has given so much to me and my family.  Both of my parents grew up on farms near Becker and went on to become business owners here.  They were also civic leaders who helped to lay an amazing foundation for our community.

Becker always has and always will be "home" for my family.  There is something special about this community and that it why I am offering my experience to serve the residents.   It is my intention to continue to speak directly with residents to share my vision for a community that is more reflective of the values of our citizens. 

In the late 1990's, I began working part-time as a newspaper reporter for the Citizen and have continued in that capacity with Patriot News MN.  I have covered hundreds of local government meetings and have a keen insight into how to best engage the community.  In 2004, I was elected to a term on the Becker City Council, where I was a voice for fiscal responsibility. I am prepared to again serve in that role, and I would be honored to earn your vote.

Don't forget to vote on or before November 5, 2024!  A reminder that the polling location changed this year and city residents will now vote at the Becker Community Center.
