Please review my leadership experience, volunteer roles, and honors that support my readiness to serve as Becker's Mayor.

•A lifelong Becker resident (52 years).  I was elected to the Becker City Council in 2004 and served one term before deciding to not seek re-election as I was preparing for a transition into school administration.

•Married to my wife, Kelly, for 30 years and together we raised 2 daughters: Kaitlin and Kiara.

•Co-founder of the Becker Robotics program, building partnerships between the school and local businesses.  Served as Assistant Coach on the team for several seasons.

•Past chair of the Sherburne County SUP Coalition and received the ATOD Community Champion Award (CCA) for our Region. The SUP coalition was the recipient of a Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) grant to fight against substance abuse in our communities.  I was fortunate enough to be selected to attend their leadership training institute. 

•Served on the Sherburne County Community Corrections Advisory Board, which oversaw the county's switch from probation to community corrections.  As the education representative on this advisory board, I worked closely with county staff, law enforcement, the judiciary and many others to ensure a seamless transition that also led to efficiencies in government and cost-savings to taxpayers.

•Newspaper reporter for over 25 years with extensive experience in covering local government. I have learned the importance of citizen engagement and see an urgent need to increase transparency in our local government.

•Former Chair, Joint Powers Fire Board and Becker Police Advisory Committee. During my time as chair of the fire board, I worked with Santiago Township to establish Station 2.  We also enhanced our ISO rating for the department, which can help lead to lower insurance premiums for businesses and residents. 

•Served as a Director with the Becker Youth Sports Association.

•Elected to the leadership board of the Central Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals.

•Long-time youth sports volunteer coach.  Also served as the community coordinator for Becker Youth Football.

•Minnesota State High School League certified official - worked both baseball and football games at the varsity level for multiple seasons.

•Member of the Becker Jaycees for 5 years - volunteered for numerous activities.  My family and I coordinated the bingo program at Woodbriar Senior Living Community.

•Chair/volunteer at 20+ community charitable benefits where $250,000+ was raised for individuals and organizations.

•Past inductee into the Becker HS Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Outstanding Community Member Award from the Becker Education Foundation in 2023.
